Hills wish White Elephants, by Ernest Hemingway         In Ernest Hemingways Hills desire White Elephants, the two main characters, trip the light fantastic toe and the unnamed American military personnel, are at a train station in Spain deforming to decide whether or not they (actu everyy just Jig) should go th robustious with an abortion. The jump time I contemplate the novel it wasnt very clear to me what type of an operation it was that they were blabber round. Hemingway doesnt really spell it out for the enterer. After school the questions at the end of the text and reading over the stagecoach again I realized that the operation they were talking rough was in fact an abortion. Although Hemingway provides very little information to the highest degree the characters situation or their pasts, the use of symbolic representation in the characters chat passim the untrieds narrative makes it a whole lot easier to understand.       Â Â Â The only thing I really noticed the first time I read the story was the emphasis between the two main characters passim the story. In the first dialogue, there seems to be some tension between Jig and the American man. They speak to each differently in short sentences and Jig starts bum aboutting sarcastic with her man the like companion (Hemingway doesnt state whether they are married) when he says that hes never seen white elephants. At first impression, seems like the lady is the antagonist.

For most of the beginning of the story all they talk about is drinks. At one point Jig says Thats all we do, isnt itlook at things and try new drinks! ?(445) These people must have a sanely hollow relationship if thats all they do. Even afterward theyre done talking about having the operation on scalawag 446, they go back to more drinking.                  The whole dialogue about the operation made me question the American...
